Projects to be launched in Malakand for revival of tourism PDF Print E-mail

ISLAMABAD, Jan 20, 2010: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Wednesday said, the government would launch development projects in Malakand Division in collaboration with Friends of Pakistan and international donor agencies for revival of tourism and socio-economic uplift.He said the government wants to  develop  Malakand and it was committed to  making it a role model.

“We will initiate development projects there and we will make it (Malakand) a role model. With the help of Friends of Pakistan and international donor agencies different projects would be launched there for revival of tourism industry,” the Prime Minister said while responding to supplementary questions during question hour  in the Senate.
 
He said the way the people of NWFP welcomed the internally displaced persons (IDPs) during military operation in Malakand division was appreciable.
 
He said  the success of military operation in Swat and Malakand Division against the militants and terrorists was made possible with cooperation and support of the local people, the nation and all the political parties.
 
He said that the military operation in Swat was completed in a record period of three months, adding that the IDPs were returning to their houses.
 
Gilani said that earlier the government was pursuing the policy of 3Ds (Dialogue, Deterrence and Development) for peace and stability in the affected areas. “Today we are practicing the policy of 3Rs, i.e Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in these areas,” he added.
 
He said measures have been taken to strengthen the country’s law enforcement agencies and an amount of Rs. 50 billion was allocated in the fiscal budget 2009-10, despite financial crunch in the country.
 
He further added that  Rs. six billion has already been released and the remaining amout would soon be provided so that the law enforcement agencies could be strengthened.
He said  “We have also asked the international community to help us strengthen LEAs for peace and economic uplift.” --APP
