Work on Yarkhun bridge begins once again! PDF Print E-mail

YARKHUN, Jan 14, 2010: Work on the reconstruction of the much delayed Yarkhun bridge has once again started but uncertainty still prevails whether it will be ready before the temporary bridge is washed away.

When contacted, the contractor of the project, Mohammad khan, said the project would be ready by the end of February. However, it may be mentioned that the contractor had earlier too promised to finish the work within months. The bridge was washed away in August 2006 and since then the valley remains cut off from rest of the country in summer.

Last month, when the use of substandard and old material in the reconstruction of the bridge was reported in the press, the authorities stopped release of funds to the contractor as a result, he stopped the work at the site.

The contractor later brought new material to the site and has started the reconstruction work.--Piar Ali
