ISLAMABAD, Jan 12, 2010: The government is all set to complete Golen Gol Hydropower project by July 2013 to add 106 megawatt electricity to country's transmission system. “Work on the project was initiated in July 2002 and set to be completed in June 2006.” sources told APP here on Tuesday. However, they added, the construction could not be started on the fixed date which later was extended till July 2007. “Now according to the revised plan, the project would be completed in July 2013,” they said. They said the height of the project was 12 metre with a 3.81 metre long tunnel, adding that its preliminary cost was estimated at Rs7,035.80 million. “Rs.367.27 million have been spent on the project so far and the government has allocated Rs700 million under Public Sector Development Programme,” they added.They said contract for staff colony at Koghuzi has been awarded and the work was in progress. The government has expedited work on the dam in order to get help mitigate load shedding and generate hydel electricity.--APP
